Violist Devan Costello-Mays is based in Northern Virginia and has enjoyed a versatile career as an orchestral player, chamber musician, and freelance musician. As a member of various ensembles, she has performed at the National Museum of the Marine Corps, The Mount Vernon Inn Restaurant, the Hylton Performing Arts Center, and Carnegie Hall (Lewisburg, WV).

As an orchestral musician, Ms. Costello-Mays has performed with the Lima Symphony, Perrysburg Symphony Orchestra, and Bluffton University Masterworks Orchestra, to name a few. In addition to performing with orchestras in the Northwest Ohio region, Ms. Costello-Mays has participated in various summer music festivals, focusing on orchestral playing nationwide.

In 2013, she performed under the direction of Lorin Maazel at the Castleton Festival. The previous season, she attended the Brevard Music Center. She performed under Keith Lockhart, Matthias Bamert, Julian Kuerti, David Stewart Wiley, JoAnn Falletta, Ken Lam, Aleksey Igudesman, and Hyung-ki Joo. Other orchestral engagements include performances with Peter Bay and the Hot Springs Festival Orchestra, as well as the Bay View Opera Orchestra, under the direction of Emanuele Andrizzi.

Ms. Costello-Mays is an avid chamber musician and has performed a wide range of string and mixed ensemble repertoire. She has participated in the Apple Hill Center for Chamber Music in Nelson, NH, and the Bay View Chamber Festival in Petoskey, MI. While pursuing her interest in chamber music, Ms. Costello-Mays has participated in coachings and masterclasses with Ed Johonnott, I-Fu Wang, Jeffrey Lastrapes, Christine Rutledge, Maggie Snyder, Patty Plombon, Dr. Carl Donakowski, Colleen Jennings, and Miriam Avalos Teie.

Devan also enjoys bringing chamber music to young audiences through community engagement projects such as the “Rhythm Rocks” concert series in Petoskey, MI, and “Kleio Trio: A Night with Mozart and Max” in Bowling Green, OH.

Ms. Costello-Mays graduated from George Mason University with an M.A. in Arts Management in May 2017. She completed her Master of Music in Viola Performance at Bowling Green State University with Professor Matthew Daline in May 2015. She received a Bachelor of Music with a concentration in performance from James Madison University in 2009, where she studied with Amadi Azikiwe and Dr. Jeffery Showell.
